I am not sure, but I seem to be logging in as an administrator here. I get some kind of admin link on top of the recent posts on the homepage. Just thought I should mention it.

    Well, congratulations, Ro!!!!
I would personally be tickled to see you added to the admin here!
(Edited to say: I fell on my left knee Sunday and bruised it down to the bone. I do, however, progress although I'm a little scared to let the crutches go. The swelling is pretty much gone though and most of the pain, so this was one I got away with. D.G.!)

  4. Yes, Ro, congrats! Have you gotten trained in administration yet?

  5. Lizzie,

Is the leg any better today?

Thanks for the reminder to check private messages. I rarely remember to look there...

  6. OMG Lizzie! How are you doing? You're retired now, so no need to rush to get better!

Knee is much better, thank you. I have graduated to one crutch and it mumbles instead of shrieks. I suddenly feel old and timid though, and I can't say that I like that however realistic it may be.
Funny thing, Rose, I love nothing better than lounging and reading - until I'm forced to do it. I'm trying to exercise like a good 'un and get back to life uncrutched.

Well my admin reign was short. ;o) Back to normal with my login.

Lizzie, sorry to hear about your knee. I am in physical therapy for my shoulder. Retirement is nice, but getting older isn't.

  9. Lizzie, take don't push hard to get better too soon! Sorry to hear about your shoulder, Rowyn....I used to beleive all that "You're only as old as you think" stuff until my body started telling me otherwise...

BTW, is anyone currently in a location where it's not raining? It's January, this should be SNOW. Instead the temps are supposed to get up into the 60's, it's pouring rain, windy and dark. Had to give it up on trying to get into the city today - the trains were cancelled due to electrical problems on the line.

The admin screen has appeared again. I had to look around to find a way to get to my messages. Finally logged into the forum and saw a link to my messages on the left. Weird...

  11. Tiberia, it was raining really hard Monday, wasn't it? We had a weird issue with pressure and the door to the Chapel (where the library is temporarily housed): it kept being sucked open thanks to the lower pressure outside.

Still slogging through the books I got in Boston; about to halt that to start The Help, which is our faculty reading group read for February. Anyone else read it?

  12. Rose, haven't been able to get my hands on it, it's very popular with book groups and everyone around here, waiting lists everywhere. Hope it's good.

And while I have been reading, it's been 2 months since the fire at my library and the board has been dragging their feet about opening a temporary place while the repairs and remodeling goes on. Two weeks ago they were leaning towards not doing it, they didn't want to spend the money, and thought they could do something else with it in the meantime, but they were persuaded to talk to the owner of an empty storefront to see if they and he could come to some agreement. Two weeks later and they still haven't decided. The owner of the property is trying to get the best deal possible, tax breaks etc. which I understand, but the place has been empty for about 6 months, so wouldn't something be better than nothing? and the board is still not wanting to let go of the money.

All that is going on, and we all have jobs in other libraries, which is wonderful, but, it's not. There's lots of ways where it's not "my real place of work" and though the staff have been friendly and try to include me in things, there are lots of little things that I used to do that I can't do here so I have a lot of time where I'm searching for something to do. And I realized this weekend that I really miss talking to the patrons that come in, and getting to know the regulars. At the new place, the patrons are polite, but they are not much for lingering and talking, just coming in to get their stuff and going, so there's lots that I miss.

I feel kind of stupid for feeling depressed about it all. I have a job. I'm lucky. But I'm also afraid that if they decide not to open a temporary spot that they'll decide they don't need to pay us to work elsewhere. I'm in an odd limbo where things are familiar yet not. And I feel stupid for letting it bother me, because I do have a job, my life is ok otherwise, just off.

  13. Don't feel stupid, Shree, I think your concerns are legit, what with all the change and uncertainty going on there. And yes, you are lucky to have a job, but you have your job because you're good at it, so don't feel guilty about it. (Yeah, easy for me to say).

Me? Well, We're putting the finishing touches on digging out from under over 2 feet of snow....and I used to say it never snowed here! HA!

  14. And guess what! More snow on the way today/tomorrow - possibly another 2 feet! I say BRING IT! :)

  15. Tiberia, I waited most of the afternoon to get official word from our Head about a snow day. Had to wait until 6:30, but oooooh is it nice knowing I don't have to go in tomorrow!
